Selkirk Young Souters Rideout 2012

24th September 2012

Sunday the 23rd of September saw the second Young Souters Association rideout take place in glorious sunshine. The ride followed the route of the Selkirk Common Riding marches on the Linglie farm. As part of an initiative created by the Selkirk Ex Standard Bearers Association two years ago to encourage young boys of the town to in the future become Attendants. Indeed this year saw two members Andrew Shaw and Chris Saunders hold the office of Attendant. Royal Burgh Standard Bearer Gavin Henderson was on hand at the Three Brethren to meet the youngsters. Where they stopped for juice and a mars bar. The Youngsters were joined on the ride by Ex Standard Bearers Alister Hogarth, Brian Rodgerson, Alasdair Craig and Michael Craig. This year saw six new youngsters complete the rideout Liam Cassidy, Thomas Willmott, Conall Fairbairn, Ryan Clyne, Jamie Clyne and Brady Glendinning. After the ride at the Linglie they were presented with there Young Souters Association tie. Then everyone enjoyed a barbacue.
Many thanks must go to J A Waters & Sons Butchers, Gordon Newlands, Dot Scott, Zara Bell, Crena Bell, Selkirk Cricket Club, The parents, To all the Horse Hirers, Alister Hogarth for allowing the ride to take place and finally to the boys them self even if didn’t ride that helped out.
