Shawburn Cup bowling

01st September 2013

Friday the 23rd of August saw the annual bowls match between Selkirk Royal and Ancient Burgh Ex-Standard Bearers and Selkirk Merchant Company
for the Shawburn Cup at Ettrick Forrest bowling Green.
The merchant Company went in to the match as favorites with the Ex Standard bearers missing 6 or 7 regulars from their team either working or on holiday.
Forcing the late call up of Selkirk Rugby player Gavin Craig the son of 1979 Standard Bearer Wilson Craig.
and also Jock Craig the father of 2007 Standard Bearer Ally Craig.
The match was tense affair that finished two rinks all. With the Ex Standard Bearers winning by the very narrow margin of 45 shots to 42 shots.
This was the fifth time in 6 years that the Ex Standard Bearers have won the match.
After the match Master of Selkirk Merchant Company Jim Cockburn presented Ex Standard Bearers Chairman Keith Riddell
with the Shawburn Cup and thanked Ettrick Forrest bowling green for allowing us to hold the match and for their hospitality.
